Joel Aptaker – PGA Assistant Golf Professional
After graduating from the University of Florida, Joel spent 15 years as a banker and real estate appraiser in Southern California. He decided to take the great leap and follow a lifelong dream of becoming a golf professional earning his Class A PGA card in 1989. After holding Assistant Professional positions at several private clubs and resorts in California and Florida, he became the Head Professional at a private club in Buffalo, New York. He came to realize his real passion in golf was to be a teacher and mentor for golfers desiring to make themselves into the best players possible. With this realization, Joel sought out positions as a teacher, and found himself as the Director of Instruction at The Cranwell Resort in Western Massachusetts and then at The Balsams Resort in Northern New Hampshire.
Joel has had tremendous success as a teacher of the golf swing for two reasons. First, he believes that the swing is actually very simple and is based on just a couple of fundamentals. These fundamentals are the proper rotation of the body based on efficient leg movement, and a relaxed swinging of the arms accompanied by a well-timed squaring of the clubface. Second, he focuses on developing in his students, the mental ability to repeat the fundamentals of the golf swing consistently. This is based on learning to have the proper thoughts in your head as you swing, accompanied by having the proper mental attitude towards creating a golf swing. A good golfer is created when a student accomplishes these two reasons and combines them with learning and applying proper on course strategies.
