Winter Activities at Treetops - 2016/2017

Extreme Tubing

WHAT - Adjacent to our ski slopes, this fun-filled activity is perfect for children and adults alike. Take an exhilarating ride down the slope on a tube where you will end up at the base of the hill right next to the tow rope where you will be towed back to the top to do it again! After your one-hour session, we guarantee you will be hooked on Extreme Tubing.

WHEN – Sessions are an hour long and fill up quickly, so remember to book yours in advance!

Reservations are required in advance to go tubing. A credit card is required at time of booking and cancellation fees apply for no-shows.

Dog Sledding

WHAT – Join Team Evergreen and Liza Dietzen and take an exhilarating ride through the trails on the Jones Masterpiece Golf Course behind a team of dogs that is training for the ultimate sled dog race, “The Iditarod.” Each ride will take you two miles through quite possibly the prettiest trails in northern Michigan. This experience can be enjoyed individually or with a child.

WHEN – December 29, 30 & 31, January 14 & 15, February 11 & 12, and March 4 & 5. Rides are scheduled throughout the day. Call our Reservations Department for a time slot before they fill up.

HOW – Advance reservations are suggested and pre-payment is required at the time of booking. Check in at the Activities Center at least 15 minutes in advance of your scheduled time.

COST – $50 per person, ($15 for an additional person in sled). A “sled load” consists of the following:

Meet and Greet the Dogs

If you’d like to meet the dogs up close and hear some history and information about dog sledding, this activity is for you. Join is on select dates and times this season for a ½ hour informational and interactive time with the dogs and the mushers.

WHEN – December 30, January 14, February 11, and March 4 – 1:00 pm

HOW – Show up at the Activity Center and make your way across the street to meet the dogs.

COST – Free! 


Cross Country Skiing

Trails are Closed for the Season - See you next year!

WHAT – Explore 20 kilometers of groomed cross country ski trails between our main property and our Project Nature property. Click Here for Map

WHEN – The main property trails are accessible during daylight hours, 7 days a week. The Project Nature trails are accessible on Sundays from 10 am – 4 pm. Or explore them on Saturdays by taking part in the Skiable Feast! 

HOW – Purchase your trail pass at the Activity Center.

Wilderness Sleigh Ride Dinners

WHAT – You will meet the Treetops shuttle on the main property and take a ride to Treetops’ remote Project Nature property where a fire and a hot drink will await you. A 25-minute sleigh ride through the woods will deliver you to the Wilderness Cabin where you will enjoy a four-course meal and assorted beer and wine. After a leisurely dinner, the shuttle will pick you up at the Wilderness Cabin and return you to Treetops’ main property. Packages are available. Space is limited so sign up today!

Groomer Rides

WHAT – Take a ride in the powerful machine that creates our spectacular corduroy conditions each night. Rides will take place during the course of our grooming process and will last a full ½ hour. Special consideration can be made if you’d like to go to certain slopes.

WHEN – 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm each Friday and Saturday night during the season

HOW – Sign up in advance by calling our Reservations Department

COST - $50 per ride (1 person per ½ hour)

Ice Skating

Ice Skating is Closed for the Season - See you next year!

WHAT – Enjoy a break from the slopes on our maintained ice rink located across from the Activity Center. Hockey is not permitted on our rink as it is for recreational use only.

WHEN – Available any day conditions permit.

HOW – Bring your own skates or rent a pair from the Activity Center.

COST – Free to houseguests, $5 for ice skate rental


Snowshoeing

Trails are Closed for the Season - See you next year!

WHAT – In addition to snowshoeing beside the 20 kilometers of cross country ski trails on our main property and Project Nature, explore areas that skis can’t take you! Wind through hardwood forests at Project Nature or through wooded hills on our main property. 

WHEN – The main property trails are accessible during daylight hours, 7 days a week. The Project Nature trails are accessible on Sundays from 10 am – 4 pm. Or explore them on Saturdays by taking part in the Skiable Feast!

Project Nature Sleigh Rides

Treetops Resort offers many events at Project Nature and in the winter, we feature sleigh rides to this historic and magical property.

WHAT – A wonderful experience for couples or the whole family. We’ll shuttle you to a remote piece of property known as Project Nature, where a fire and hot drink, the horses and sleigh await. You’ll embark on a 25-30 minute journey through the woods. The Shuttle will then return you to the main resort at Treetops. Choose the earlier ride for some daylight or choose the 2nd ride if you like the ambiance of a winter night ride with some lantern lights.

WHEN – December 26 – 31; January 7, 14, 21, 28; February 11, 18, 19, 25. Each night (except for December dates – see below), there will be two rides.

HOW – Advance reservations are suggested, as the sleigh has spots for the first 16 individuals to book. You can book your spot by calling reservations.

Fat Tire Snow Biking

Trails are Closed for the Season - See you next year!

WHAT - Mountain Biking meets Cross Country Skiing in this hot new sport. Take to the Trails on our main property on a specially made Snow Bike with fat tires which make maneuvering through the snow manageable.

WHEN – Available when conditions permit on the trails, all winter long.

HOW – Reservations should be made in advance and payment is required at time of reservation. Bikes can be picked up and returned at the Activities Center.

NASTAR

WHAT – The world’s largest recreational ski and snowboard race program. It allows ski or snowboard racers of all ages and abilities, through a handicap system, a way to compare themselves with one another and with the national champion, regardless of when and where they race. Since the program’s beginning in 1968, more than six million NASTAR racer days have been recorded. Many US Ski Team stars got their start ski racing in NASTAR programs. Racers earn medals depending on their time and race handicap.

Slopestyle & Rail Jam Competitions

WHAT – Treetops is a regular stop on the USASA circuit for the Great Lakes Region. Competitors compete in Slope Style, Boarder Cross, Rail Jam, Banked Slalom, Slalom and Giant Slalom. Treetops has been regarded as a favorite stop for competitors competing in the Great Lakes Series, so join in the fun and competitive atmosphere that Treetops provides.

Tommy Tropic

WHAT – An amazing talent that has been entertaining for decades at northern Michigan Ski Resorts, Tommy Tropic will be a fixture at Treetops this year, entertaining on and off the slopes. In addition to his act, Treetops wants you to get into the act as well. Each day Tommy is on site, he’ll set aside time to teach you how to juggle.

WHEN

HOW – Show up on any of these dates and see a talent like you’ve never seen before….and learn a little too.

COST – Free of charge for all to enjoy


Ga – Ga

WHAT – Your kids have most likely played this fast paced game at summer camp. Have fun playing pick-up games or join in during one of our resort-wide competitions. Located next to the Halfway Café.

WHEN – Varies

COST – Free


On-Slope Activities

WHAT – Fun-filled, imaginative games lead by our Activities staff. A new game will be chosen each week and most take place near the Halfway Café. Games such as Human Curling, Human Bowling, Obstacle Course, SNAG Golf and more.

WHEN – Typically 3 pm each Saturday and Holiday Period Day, but check your weekly activity flyer for the exact time and game.

HOW – Just show up and have a blast!

COST – Free


S’mores

WHAT – Take a break from skiing to enjoy s'mores over the fire at the Halfway Café.

WHEN – 4 pm on the following days: December 26 - 31, January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18, 25, and March 4 and 11


Kids Movies

WHAT – Enjoy a kid’s movie in the Aspen Room (Lodge – lower level), or in the Alpine Room (Inn – lower level)

WHEN – 7:30 pm on the following days:

 

 

HOW – Check with the Front Desk to find out which room the movie is playing and show up and enjoy!

Geocaching

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt using GPS-enabled devices. You can do it with your smartphone! Using GPS coordinates (the app will help you), you navigate to the item hidden at that location. Usually, it is a container with a log book where you can date, sign your name and leave a note. There will probably be a number of items in the container (like rubber bands, pennies, little army men). You can leave an item and then take an item.
