Meet the Instructors


Joe Charles :: PGA Head Golf Professional /Director of Instruction

A 2005 graduate of Ferris State University’s Professional Golf Management Program, Joe starts his second year as Director of Instruction for the Treetops Golf Academy. This year the academy becomes part of the Golf Channel Academynetworkofworldclassteachingfacilitiesincreasingitsalreadywellknownreputationingolf instruction. Joe is a TPI Certified Golf Professional and Eyeline Golf 4 Putting Elements Certified instructor, both of which will be utilized in this year’s golf school. Joe also specializes intheapplicationofmanystateoftheartteachingtechnologies including V1 video analysis and Foresight Sports Launch monitors which will also be utilized in your experience at the school.  Joe joined the Treetops staff after working at some of the top clubs in the world (Kalamazoo CC, Ritz-Carlton GolfCluband The Dye Preserve) as well as some of the top golf professionals in the world such as Dick Stewart, MikeBenderand Chuck Cook.


Spencer Bloom :: Assistant Golf Professional - Jones Masterpiece, PGA Apprentice

A 2014 graduate of Indiana University, Spencer begins his 4th year at Treetops, as well as his 4th season as an instructor for our Ladies Golf School.  Spencer has served as the lead instructor for our Summer Long Camp Sylvan Junior Golf Program, an instructor for our Get Golf Ready Program, as well as a coach for our PGA Junior League Program.  Also a great player, Spencer passed his Playing AbilityTestonhisinitialtry, and recently won the inaugural event in the Michigan PGA Section Assistant/Apprentice Series. Spencer is currently in his final level of the PGA’s PGM Apprentice Program with is sights set on becoming a PGA Member in the not too distant future.  Spencer’s work ethic is second to none and he will leave no stone unturned to help you improve your game


Mark Hogan :: PGA Head Golf Professional Treetops North

Mark is in his 2nd year after a storied career (25 years) at the neighboring Otsego Club and is now serving as Head Golf Professional at Treetops North. The respect that Mark has earned in the Gaylord Community and statewide has us very excited to have him be a member of our team.  His vast experience with golfers of all abilities and ages will complement tremendously with some of the younger instructors on staff.  Mark was instrumental in bringing Junior Golf to Gaylord with the reinvigoration of the Gaylord Area Junior Golf Association (GAJUGA).   In addition to his long tenure in Gaylord, Mark has worked at TPC Sawgrass and was mentored as a young professional by Michigan PGA Hall of Famer Ron LaParl at Battle Creek CC.


Kevin McKinley :: PGA Director of Golf & Ski

Kevin begins his 21st year in the golf business this year with stints at Pine River CC and Crystal Mountain Resort before his 12 years at Treetops.  Although his hours on the lesson tee are limited due to a big job as Director of Golf and Ski Operations, Kevin still exhibits a strong desire to grow the game of golf by creating golfers and making existing golfers better.  Kevin was part of a teaching staff that Golf Digest ranked in the Top 25 nationally and was the creator of Treetops’ PGA Junior League and Get Golf Ready Programs.  Kevin has also served the Michigan PGA concurrently for over 10 years and is currently the Vice President of the Section.  He is also a 3-time winner of the Michigan Section’s Patriot Award and a four-time finalist for the national award.  Kevin is the current Golf Professional of the Year for the Michigan Section PGA and will become the 44th President of that Association in October of 2017.

Stephanie Carson

A 2015 graduate of Trine University, Stephanie is in her first season at Treetops. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration - Golf Management.  Upon graduating, she spent a season working at The Grand Hotel Golf Shop on Mackinac Island.  The following summer she moved to Vermont to work at The Quechee Club as the 2nd Assistant Golf Professional. She assisted in running the junior golf program and ladies league.  Most recently she was working in the golf shop at The Polo Club of Boca Raton in Florida assisting in running tournaments and jr. clinics. She is currently in the qualifying stage of obtaining PGA Membership and, plans on taking her PAT this summer. She looks forward to joining the team at Treetops this season! 

 Graham Fulcher

A 2013 graduate of Flint Powers Catholic High School, Graham was an all-conference player three of his four years in high school play and was part of two teams that qualified for the state championships.  After an inspiring weekend of instruction in the Treetops Academy in the Spring of 2016, Graham applied for a position on the Treetops Golf Staff and decided to stay on property after receiving a position as an assistant at The Jones Course.  He has been involved in teaching various group lessons for both adults and juniors while at Treetops and worked the winter season in the skier services department.  Graham has enrolled in the PGA PGM program and intends to pass the Playing Ability Test very soon.  Graham’s ability to communicate with co - workers and guests make him a natural in the golf business.

Steve Joslin

An Assistant Golf Professional at Treetops now in his third season after a brief stint as Head Golf Professional at Black Lake Golf Club.  Steve enters the golf business after admirably serving our country for nearly a decade.  In addition to his duties at Treetops, he also serves as the Michigan Director of the Veteran’s Golf Association.  Steve’s love for teaching, technology, and equipment make him a valuable asset to the Treetops Golf Academy.  His future plans include taking the PGA’s Playing Ability Test and entering the PGM Program on his way to becoming a member of the PGA of America.
