Treetops Resort Arguably Has ‘Michigan’s Most Spectacular’ Staff

Four Treetops Team Members Receive Honors From
Michigan Travel Commission and Michigan PGA

GAYLORD, MICHIGAN – Treetops Resort is home to Michigan’s Most Spectacular Golf, Ski, and Spa.  What makes this ‘Pure Michigan’ destination resort spectacular? Arguably its award winning staff.

Four Treetops staff members recently received top honors by leaders in the hospitality and golf industries.

Director of Golf and Ski Operations, PGA Golf Professional Kevin McKinley will receive top honors from the Michigan Section PGA for his tireless efforts promoting Patriot Golf Day, a national program which assists military families with educational scholarships.  Kevin has lead the effort nationally in raising awareness for the program and scholarship funds in excess of $150,000 over the recent several years at the Treetops Resort Patriot Day Golf Shootout.

Also receiving top honors as ‘Teacher of the Year’ from the Michigan Section PGA is Treetops Rick Smith & Jason Guss Golf Academy Director and PGA Professional Jason Guss. Jason has received several accolades recently.  He is one of Golf Digest’s ‘Best Young Teachers’, and has been a panelist on the ‘Hot List’ by Golf Digest.  Guss is notably one of the brightest and most talented young instructors in the United States. This is evidenced by his inclusion into Golf Digest's list of Best Young Teachers in 2012 & 2010. Guss has also twice been voted by the Golf Digest team as one of the top 20 teachers in America under the age of 40.

Following suit, two more Treetops staffers will be honored at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism during the Pure Michigan “Stars of the Industry Awards” event on April 15th.  First place for “Seasonal Operator of the Year” has been awarded to Aaron McIntyre, Golf Shop Assistant Manager who will be recognized for his outstanding efforts in making both the golf and ski season a great experience for Treetops guests.  His initiative and “I’ll do it” attitude has been exhibited since beginning work at Treetops in 2005.  He was nominated by Jim McGuigan, who also expressed how Aaron has helped make him a better manager by demonstrating his impeccable listening skills, conflict resolution skills and calm demeanor.

Third place for “Attraction Star of the Year” has been awarded to Kurt Kakaviska who has worked as a massage therapist in the Treetops Salon and Spa for the past six years.  Kurt has an exceptional willingness to help out no matter when or what is needed.   Furthermore, Kurt works another job during the daytime and works at Treetops in the evenings and on weekends.  He consistently receives great comments from guests regarding his professionalism and display of his knowledge surrounding message.

"I am very proud of our staff, both seasonal and year round; they are our discriminator.  Our Treetops team of professionals has been pivotal in our success in growing a record number of rounds of golf last season; to the tune of over 93,000 rounds of golf, on our five courses.  Not to mention we are closing out the best winter ever - growing our winter getaway business by over 15% during this extended season.  We continue to build our brand by employing great people, with great ideas," said Barry Owens General Manager.||With its majestic rolling hills and natural valleys overlooking the Pigeon River Valley, Treetops Resort is the name by which all other courses in Michigan are measured. The resort is home to Robert Trent Jones, Sr.’s final design in Michigan; the Masterpiece course is largely acknowledged as the architect’s crowning glory. The equally magnificent Premier course is the only course in Michigan designed by the famed Tom Fazio. The Signature course is rated a Top 50 Course for Women. The Tradition course bears its name by the ‘traditional’ wooden pins and pennant flags paying homage to golf’s origin. Threetops Par 3 Course is consistently ranked the No.1 Par 3 Course in America by GolfweekGolf Magazine and Golf & Travel. And, Treetops has been voted as one of the world’s top golf resorts by Conde Nast Magazine.
